Kas Yonen is a Ukrainian producer who grew up listening to various sub-genres of drum & bass, vocal trance and breakbeats and was heavily influenced by artists as diverse as Noisia, Above & Beyond and Prodigy. Eventually, inspired by the local dance music scene and DJs in his native Kyiv, he began to develop a love for house and techno music, particularly that championed by labels such as Hungry Music, Anjunadeep, Afterlife and Steyoyoke. His production repertoire focuses primarily on melodic techno and progressive house, and his music is characterised by lush pads, emotive chord progressions, textures that convey deep ambience and a driving or groovy bassline that gets heads nodding and legs moving.
Kas Yonen’s SRNDR Records’ debut is a lovingly-crafted progressive house beauty called “Event Horizon”. Driven by an arpeggiated bassline and tasteful synth stabs, the track builds gently and non-obtrusively into an emotive mid-section and before you know it, you find yourself embraced by warm, lush pads and a sense of melancholy. As suggested by the track title, the arrangement takes listeners on an imagined journey in space into an unknown, dark void to the point of no return.
