DJ Vistar is a musician, DJ and producer from Western Cape, South Africa, who started DJing in 2007 before moving into production a year later. His story tells of a young man from a humble background who used to collect his neighbours’ old records, and for whom music proved an escape and catharsis from the pain and struggle of growing up with an abusive father. A wonderful instrumentalist and composer, his music channels the revolutionist, Socialist-inspired jazz championed by the likes of Jimmy Dludlu, Donlaka, as well as deep house producers such as Black Coffee, Julian Gomez, Atjazz, Cuebur and more. For proper, authentic deep, soulful, jazzy Afro-house, look no further.
DJ Vistar’s first release on SRNDR Records is "Cape to London". Lush and beautifully unpredictable, the track offers a wonderful insight into the producer’s proud cultural heritage, varied musical influences and soulful jazz aesthetics. This was quickly followed by another jazz-infused, deep Afro house beauty titled “Vistar’s Award”. The track builds slowly but surely, driven by a melodic bassline, organic beats and subtle, atmospheric synths. “Cape to London”, originally released in March at the height of the COVID-19 storm, was re-released as a ‘B-side'. Both releases make great additions to the musical library of fans of Osunlade, Atjazz, Jimspter, Dennis Ferrer and more.
Having released “Cape to London” and “Vistar’s Award” in 2020, DJ Vistar returns to SRNDR with another deep, Afro house beauty entitled “Soul After”, as part of the label’s SRNDR Summer 2021 compilation EP.
“Cape to London”, “Vistar’s Award” and ”Soul After” are available on all good digital music platforms.
